Photojournale : Photo documentary and photo journal stories from around the world

At an early age I came in contact with photography,
and ever since it has been in my life. My parents
had a subscription to the National Geographic
magazine, and as a child I remember using the
photo's for projects I made in school. At the
age of 11 I made my first photo's. Nine years
later I volunteered for the United Nations to
go to Lebanon with the UNIFIL peacekeeping forces.
For 6 month I served in Lebanon. It was 1985,
and the only camera I had was a Kodak Disc camera.
After returning from Lebanon I decided to go to
Australia for a year. Before I left, I bought
a Pentax SLR camera. Worked in a brickyard for
6 month and travelled around the country. Back
in The Netherlands I got in contact with a photographer
in Amsterdam, who did commercial work and I assisted
him for over a year. Then in 1990 I became involved
in television and started working as a cameraman.
As a cameraman I was sent out on assignment to
lots of countries and always took my still camera.
In May 2005 I took part in a workshop with Gary
Knight from the photo agency VII.
